COMING EVENTS2012 is the 50th anniversary of Wildlife Queensland. Scenic Rim Wildlife and the other branches will be holding various activities to celebrate this. A celebration of Judith Wright, one of its founders, would be highly appropriate in our region, as she lived for about 30 years on Tamborine Mountain, and wrote many of her poems while living there. One of our members, Brett Dionysus, is a published poet and also is doing research on Judith Wright. We are hoping to hold a wildlife poetry evening (possibly involving songs and painting as well) early in the year, celebrating Judith's poetry and activism and hearing contemporary poems by Brett, Sara Bruxner (another published poet who is a member and lives at Beechmont) and others. Please let us know if you would be interested in attending. "Talking Wildlife" will be the big event of the year for the association as a whole - 7-8 September, at Bardon, in the outer western suburbs of Brisbane. There will be details in January on the main Wildlife Qld site. Binna Burra will be holding a wildlife week 9-14 September 2012 i.e. immediate following 'Talking WIldlife'. Wildlife Qld used to hold spring schools, including wildlife weeks, at Binna Burra in the 60's and early 70's, one of which I flew up from Adelaide to attend. We are hoping to hold anther wildlife expo mid-year - date etc. TBA Also please let us know if you are able to join in with fauna surveys along the proposed coal seam gas pipeline route - if construction really does start this year, this is our last chance to find out what is here now, before the pipeline starts.
